Ten years in, the four gentlemen that form Chatham County Line have a lot to reflect on. Sold out shows in the US and overseas, appearances on national Radio and TV, four solid selling records, and four really dirty suits. “We want to be the band that puts on the most professional show in the business of what we do” reflects singer/guitarist/writer Dave Wilson. “I get tired of going to a show and the band stands around on stage doing nothing for 40% of the gig. If you’re there for us, we are gonna prove we are there for you.”
It is that sincerity of showmanship and professionalism that has led to countless miles on the road for CCL. “We’ve wore out two vans by now and I’ve actually worn out a few ties as well, you ever hear of someone wearing out a tie?” asks John Teer, mandolin, fiddle and high tenor singer for the band. It is this sweat equity that has fans driving hundreds of miles to catch Chatham County Line at work on the road. “We’ve had fans travel from another country to catch a show,” reflects banjoist Chandler Holt, continuing, “That’s when you know you’re doing something right.”
Releasing IV to critical acclaim in 2008, CCL was invited to be on “Later…with Jools Holland” on BBC 2 in the UK alongside such acts as The Raconteurs, Nick Cave, and Bon Iver. “Now that was a party,” muses Standup Bassist Greg Readling, adding “When you’ve got those guys coming up and introducing themselves to you, all the miles just melt away.”
The band released Wildwood in the summer of 2010 and continues to burn up stages from the southeast to the northwest and overseas from Bristol, UK to Amsterdam…and of course, their home away from home, Norway.
On the road they can be seen on the stages of festivals such as Merlefest, Grey Fox, Rockygrass, The Winnipeg Folk Fest, Pickathon, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Shakori Hills, Bristol Rhythm and Roots, Pickin’ in the Pines, 3 Sisters, Bergenfest (NO), Lowlands (NL), Take Root (NL), and Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots (IE). TV and Radio appearances include Later…with Jools Holland (BBC 2), God Morgen Norge (NO), Bob Harris Country (BBC 2), McLean’s Country (BBC IE), Shouting Boots Radio 6 (NL), NRK Lydverket (NO), World Cafe Live (WXPN), The State of Things (WUNC), and numerous other national, regional, local, and interweb broadcasts.

Tuesday, April 24 - Round Mountain and Kailin Yong Peace Project Trio
7:30 pm | $15 at the door | GIG Performance Space
|
|
Blending dusty American grit with a worldly amalgam of global influences, Santa Fe-based duo Round Mountain presents a singular take on folk music that is both foreign and familiar. The multi-multi-instrumentalist band of brothers has traveled the globe absorbing bits and pieces of musical cultures, returning to filter them through their own sepia-toned Americana framework.
Robby Rothschild has studied many forms of music, with teachers around the world. He has performed with Thomas Mapfumo, Guinean griot Prince Diabate, and Ottmar Liebert, and has a Masters Degree in Composition from the University of New Mexico. Onstage, he sings and plays percussion - the West African djembe and Peruvian cajon, in addition to the West African harp known as the kora, and the Irish bouzouki.
Char Rothschild studied music since age 8, eventually finding his own voice as he traveled from Egypt to Ireland in 1996, and to Tokyo in 1997, playing for the Old Moscow Circus. On stage, Char sings and plays accordion, guitar or dobro, together with trumpet or Bulgarian gaida, and also highland bagpipes. He has studied trumpet with Paul Yutaka Tobe of the Japan Philharmonic, and Zahir Ramadanov of Ansambl Teodosievski.
The Boulder, Colorado based Peace Project Trio, led by Singaporean violin virtuoso Kailin Yong, is proud to bring its signature blend of world music to GiG in its continuing effort to promote peace, friendship, and cross-cultural understanding using the power of music to bridge boundaries and bring people together. Joining Kailin in the trio are James Hoskins on cello and Brett Bowen on world percussi
The Peace Project explores the commonalities found in Chinese folk melodies, Baiao and Samba from Brazil, the Laz of the Turkish Rom, Argentine tangos, Arabic and Sufi microtonal mystique, American roots, odd and mixed metered Balkan and Greek dance madness, modern jazz ballads, and more, all mixed with a good dose of joy, humor, and audience participation!
